Installing BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) on Android or iPhone
Posted By:
Hassan Bashir
on 10:57
Do you own an Android or iPhone smartphone? If so, you can download BBM and connect with friends and family around the world for free! To help you get started, here are a few things you’ll want to know.
Step 1 – Make sure BBM supports your device
In addition to BlackBerry smartphones, BBM™ is currently available on iPhone and Android devices.
For iPhone, BBM supports iOS v6 and iOS v7 or later.
For Android, BBM supports smartphones running Android v4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and later and with a screen size of 7” or less.
Step 2 – How to download BBM on Android or iPhone
Visit www.BBM.com from your iPhone or Android smartphone browser. This will take you to the official BBM app in the App Store or Google Play.
This is the best way to ensure you get the real BBM for Android or iPhone
Step 3 – Sign into BBM using a BlackBerry ID
In order to use BBM, you’ll need a BBID (BlackBerry ID). Simply put, a BBID is an account that serves as your login to BBM on Android and iPhone.. What’s really convenient is that your BBM contact list and other BBM details are linked to your BBID. With your contact list linked to your BBID, you no longer have to manually backup and restore your BBM contact list when you switch devices.
Update 10/24/13: To help manage the demand for BBM, we are implementing a simple line-up system to ensure a smooth roll out. Since this is the case, after installing BBM on a Android or iPhone, launch the app and enter your email address to a hold a spot in line. We will email you as soon as you reach the front of the line so you can start using BBM. For more details, visit Inside BlackBerry or follow @BBM on Twitter.
If you don’t have a BBID, you’ll be able to create one after installing BBM on your device, or you can create one online by browsing to bbid.com. After creating your BBID, all that’s left to do is sign in to BBM and you’ll be able to start chatting with friends and family.
In the event you already have a BBID but forget the password, visit the BlackBerry ID website for assistance with resetting your password.
Finally, for those that used BBM on a BlackBerry smartphone in the past, you may be able to restore your contacts provided your BBID was associated with a BlackBerry smartphone running BBM 7.0 or later. If this applies to you, when you log in to BBM using that BBID, you will be prompted to restore your contacts.
Step 4 – BBM tips!
At this point, BBM should be installed on your Android or iPhone, and you’ve successfully signed in using a BlackBerry ID. To help you get the most out of BBM, here are a few things you’ll want to know!
What is a BBM PIN and how can I find mine?
A PIN is a unique identifier used in BBM that is automatically generated when you log in to BBM for the first time. If you want to invite someone to be a BBM contact, give them your PIN, or ask for theirs. It’s a neat way to connect with people without having to give them personal information like your email address or phone number. You can also add a new contact on BBM by showing them your PIN Barcode (this looks like a QR code), rather than having to type out the PIN number. After your friend scans your PIN Barcode, you’ll be added to each other’s contact lists. Again, no personal information is exchanged, just your unique PINs.
To find your BBM PIN, tap your BBM picture or name followed by Show Barcode along the bottom toolbar.
How do I change my BBM name, status or picture?
After signing in to BBM, tap your picture or name along the top banner and do any of the following:
- To change your BBM display name, tap your current display name.
- To change your BBM picture (avatar), tap your current picture followed by tapping Replace Picture and select a new picture or animated GIF to use as your BBM picture.
- In the ‘What’s on your mind?’ field, type a status.
- To show an icon beside your name, or to show a custom status that you saved, tap Status and select a desired status
You can add contacts to BBM by scanning a BBM barcode, typing a BBM PIN, or by selecting a contact on your device and sending them an invite via email or text.

Technology: The Insurance Industry's Pivot Point
The insurance industry is wrestling with how to interact with and retain customers in an effort to drive growth and profitability. Three innovative technologies—social networking, telematics, and SOA—are essential to companies that want to be industry leaders.
Across the insurance industry, companies are adopting similar and consistent business strategies as they seek new ways to grow and prosper. Many of the strategies seek to improve the richness and effectiveness of interactions with customers, which today increasingly have a technology component. Social networking, telematics and service-oriented architectures (SOA) are all in the mix and driving this transformation. Facebook, Twitter and YouTube—to name three—offer the ability to improve customer interactions, communicate product information and generate more sales. Telematics may be larger still, as it introduces entirely new business models that blend insurance, technology and mobility. SOA is becoming key to managing the complexity of integrating legacy and new applications.
A.T. Kearney recently completed a study of emerging technologies to isolate opportunities for capturing strategic advantage. These trends in insurance are part of a broader landscape in which innovative technologies are significantly driving change across a wide range of functions and industries. Figure 1 highlights the main trends in five areas: consumer and employee experience (leading to innovation breakthroughs), applications and telecommunications (leading to growth and profits), and information management (leading to improved operations).

Apple Reveals iPhone 5s
Posted By:

Apple has ended the one-year wait which starts off for next device just as the latest iPhone is announced.
This year, they made an amendment to the usual tradition by announcing two phones instead of one. The iPhone 5S is the top-of-the-line phone as evident by the ‘S’ and brings some incredible changes to the table.
The button has seen its biggest change ever with a built-in 170 micron thick fingerprint scanner in it, called Touch ID. The technology’s use has been maximized in iOS 7 so alongside usual things like unlocking the device, it can also be used for things like iTunes purchasing verifications and other stuff. Multiple users’ fingerprints can also be memorized.
The iPhone 5S is very slick at just 7.6mm thin and 112g heavy. It’s also very environment-friendly, being made of components which are arsenic-free and mercury-free.
The display of the phone was one thing which was almost completely forgotten in Apple’s event. It’s still a 4 inch Retina with 640 x 1136 resolution. In an age of phablets with the Note III being announced only 6 days back, it’s a bit disappointing that Apple hasn’t enhanced the display. That was undoubtedly one of our bigger expectations.
The bigger innovation is that it’s the world’s first 64-bit smartphone processor. It will have support for OpenGL ES 3.0 and Xcode. The A7 will also have 64-bit kernels, libraries and drivers. The graphics are twice as fast as well. Overall, the iPhone 5S is 56 times faster than the original iPhone. Half of that spectacular figure is a direct blessing of A7.
The 64-bit chip is still compatible with the 32-bit apps. Also announced was an M7 chip which looks after motion-sensing in real-time and will be great for fitness apps.
The hardcore capabilities of the iPhone 5S were proven in the dazzling demo of Infinity Blade III which is also the last game of this series.
As for the rest of the iPhones, the iOS 7 update is coming on 18 September.
That’s accompanied by a new dual-LED Flash dubbed “True Tone” which consists of a blue and an amber LED and operates on up to 1000 different levels to make photos appear natural. Auto Image Stabilisation and Burst Modes have also seen an entry with the latter being triggered whenever the shutter icon is held. It shoots at a rate of 10 images per second.
As for the video, the 5S captures 1080p video at 30fps, alongside 720p video at 120fps. Slow Motion videos can also be shot. For doing that, 720p videos are shot first while the portions to be slowed-down are chosen afterwards. A combination of the two can also go along, together. Facetime camera has also been improved to perform better in lowlight.
The iPhone 5S is the high-point for Apple. A lot of future-proofing has been done this time especially on the inside. Had Apple increased the display size to 4.5 inch, the package might’ve become even more tempting but even without it, the 5S is no slouch by any means.
One more thing to note is that unlike others, Apple hasn’t gotten itself into the numbers race. The camera is still 8 megapixels, screen still Retina. Why fix something which isn’t broken? For that, Apple deserves a pat on the back.
As for the phone itself, we’ll let the sales figures decide.

This year, they made an amendment to the usual tradition by announcing two phones instead of one. The iPhone 5S is the top-of-the-line phone as evident by the ‘S’ and brings some incredible changes to the table.
The Display and Design
The design of the iPhone 5S follows the footsteps of the previous iterations and is made of high-grade aluminum with high-chaffered edges. It will be available in three colors: Black-Slate, White-Silver and White-Gold. One major change comes in the home button. CPU And Other Internals
The iPhone 5S has seen a major overhaul under the surface. The new chip called the A7 is twice as faster as before and 40 times as faster as the 2G. It does 2 times as many general purpose and floating point registers and packs twice as many transistors (1 Billion) as the A6.The bigger innovation is that it’s the world’s first 64-bit smartphone processor. It will have support for OpenGL ES 3.0 and Xcode. The A7 will also have 64-bit kernels, libraries and drivers. The graphics are twice as fast as well. The hardcore capabilities of the iPhone 5S were proven in the dazzling demo of Infinity Blade III which is also the last game of this series.
Software
The iPhone 5S comes with iOS 7 pre-installed, of course. That alone brings quite a lot of change including flat icons, better lockscreen, Control Centre, Notification Centre and a male Siri. Apple also announced that all of its essential editing and productivity apps, i.e. Keynote, iMovie, iPhoto, iWork and Pages and Numbers will be free from now onwards. This offer is limited to new iPhones which will be bought in the future only.As for the rest of the iPhones, the iOS 7 update is coming on 18 September.
Camera
The iPhone 5S’ camera is still of 8 megapixels with a 5-element lens and f2.2 aperture. The sensor area is 15 percent larger. iOS 7 automatically corrects white balance & exposure balance and creates a local dynamic tone map for a better image.

Facetime camera has also been improved to perform better in lowlight.
Miscellaneous
The phone’s battery is of 1440 mAh capacity and provides 3G talk-time of 10 hours and 250 hours of standby. Bluetooth 4.0, LTE, Wi-Fi and Lightning Port are used for connectivity. And as usual, a nano-SIM card is used.Pricing and Availability
The phone will be available in Pakistan for the usual price tag of around $800 or Rs. 85,000 at launch. This price is likely to go down around Rs. 70,000 with-in one month of the launch. Special covers will cost $39 each. The iPhone 5S, alongside the 5C will be put up for sale on the 20th of September. By the end of 2013, it would’ve hit 100 countries. The iPhone 5S is the high-point for Apple. A lot of future-proofing has been done this time especially on the inside. Multiple Email Addresses with 1 Gmail Account - Tutorial

Multiple Google Email Addresses – One Gmail Account
Google Gmail is a very slick, free email product. One Gmail feature that you may not be aware of is that multiple Google email addresses can be created from one Gmail account. These bonus email addresses are easy to create and manage and can take a few different forms.
Multiple Google Email Addresses from One Gmail Account
Having multiple Gmail addresses can provide a range of uses including easily separating personal and business email and tracking incoming email from specific subscriptions and mailing list. There are three main methods for expanding the number of usable Google email addresses that you can have from a single Gmail account:
Using the @googlemail.com domain.
Using the “dot” or period in your email name.
Using the plus sign “+” at the end of your name and adding extra characters.
Using the “@googlemail.com” Domain Name
Let’s start with the use of the @googlemail.com domain name. With every Gmail account you actually get a second email address – one is the regular @gmail.com address while the second address has @googlemail.com as the domain. So Gmail will actually see myname@gmail.com as the same as myname@googlemail.com. All email messages that are sent to myname@googlemail.com will be delivered to your
Using a Dot or Period in the Email name
Another interesting facet of Gmail addresses is what is sometimes referred to as “Dot Blindness”. In an interesting twist Gmail does not recognize dots, ”.”or periods as characters in Google email address user names. This means that Gmail “sees” my.name@gmail.com or myna.me@gmail.com as the same address as myname@gmail.com. You can also use multiple “dots” in the username such as my.na.me@gmail.com.
The same “dot blindness” also applies to email addresses using the @googlemail.com domain name with my.name@googlemail.com or my.na.me@googlemail.com being routed to the same Inbox as myname@gmail.com.
Using the Plus Sign and Additional Characters
The third trick for extending the use of your Gmail account is the ability to add extra characters to the end of your username by inserting a plus sign, “+” after your name. Google does not recognize these characters but Gmail search filters do. The characters after the plus sign can be either letters or numbers. So myname+abcde@gmail.com or myname+abcde@googlemail.com will end up in the same Inbox as myname@gmail.com.
Test these out for yourself and see what works best for you. All the variations below are from the same Google email account and will all end up in the myname@gmail.com Gmail Inbox:
myname@gmail.com
myname@googlemail.com
my.name@gmail.com
my.name@googlemail.com
my.na.me@gmail.com
my.na.me@googlemail.com
myname+abcde@gmail.com
myname+123abc@gmail.com
my.name+abcdefg78@gmail.com
my.name+abcdefg78@googlemail.com
Benefits of Multiple Google Email Address from One Gmail Account
So you say, “OK, these Google email address tips are interesting, but what would I use all these variations for”? One use is to track where mail is coming from. When you sign up for a newsletter subscription or mailing list you can create a specific email address by using the plus sign and some specific characters or “dot” pattern. You can then track incoming email based on the specific email name that you created.
For example, you sign up for a subscription to a newsletter using my.name+456news@gmail.com and then in addition to the newsletter you signed up for you start receiving email from a number of other different sources to that specific address. This could indicate that the specific mailing list might have been compromised or even sold.
Another use of these address variations is for sorting out spam or unwanted email from a specific Google email address. By using Gmail filters you can automatically direct mail to a specific address, such as myname+666@gmail.com to the spam folder.
Variations on your address can also be used to separate out personal and business messages and automatically identify each with a different label and sorted to a different folder.
Simplified Google Email Address Management
Having multiple Google email addresses is a useful tool for addressing a number of different email needs. The benefits of having a centralized email account that can easily process a number of different email addresses without having to go out and set up numerous new accounts with additional usernames and passwords can be a real plus. And they are all managed from a single Gmail account.

Apple Confirms September 10 Unveiling of the Next iPhone(s)

The unveiling of the iPhone is one of biggest moments of the
industry. All previous unveilings of iPhone devices have always been
long-awaited and this year is no different, especially since it has been
largely expected that it will be the first instance of Apple announcing
two phones, instead of one.
Well now, confirming several rumours the company has revealed that it will be pulling the curtains of its next generation iPhone on September 10. That’s almost a year later to the day the iPhone 5 crashed out – only 2 days less.
The press invite features an Apple logo with a colourful background and the following words below it:
And while the iPhone 5S or 6 (or whatever it’ll be called) will surely be announced, its younger – and cheaper — sibling, instead, has gotten us more excited. The cheaper variant teasing itself in loads of colourful packages is certainly something to look out for and many people will be really mad if like last year, this year again the thing escapes announcement.
